Free Solar Panels, Air Source Heat Pump & Loft Insulation Through ECO4 Scheme

Customer Profile

Customer Name: Richard

Age Group: 30-50 Years

Residence: Occupies a 3-bedroom semi-detached house

Energy Efficiency: Qualified for the Energy Company Obligation (ECO4) Scheme

Interests: Likely focused on energy conservation, cost saving on utilities

Possible Requirements: Installation of energy-efficient heating systems, insulation solutions

Overview

Customer: Richard, a 40+ year-old residing in a 3-bedroom semi-detached house, had faced significant energy efficiency challenges.

With an outdated and ineffective gas boiler, Richard's home lacked any modern means of heating and had insufficient insulation, particularly in the loft area.

Additionally, there were no solar panels installed in his house. Qualifying for the Energy Company Obligation (ECO4) Scheme, Richard prioritised enhancements in energy conservation and sought cost-effective utility solutions.

This study explores the interventions implemented to enhance the energy efficiency of Richard’s home, including new heating systems and comprehensive insulation solutions.

The Challenges

Outdated Heating System: This home was equipped with an inefficient old gas boiler that failed to provide adequate heating.

Lack of Insulation: Insufficient loft insulation led to significant heat loss, affecting the home’s thermal efficiency.

Absence of Solar Power: No solar panels were installed, missing the opportunity for sustainable energy use and savings on electricity.

High Energy Bills: Excessive energy consumption due to outdated systems resulted in high utility bills.

The Solution

We helped Richard get free upgrades by using the ECO4 Scheme.

After checking his eligibility for the qualifying ECO4 Scheme standards, Richard qualified.

This meant we could put in a new heating system and make other energy-saving changes to his home for free.

Now, he can enjoy a warmer house without paying any money.

Implementation

Book A Survey - Retrofit Assessment: Schedule initial assessment to understand current home energy systems and needs.

Analysis Phase: Evaluate property to confirm its suitability for the new insulation, heating and solar installations.

Designing Phase: Develop initial plans for the heating system layout, radiator placement, and solar panel integration.

Pre-Inspection: Conduct a physical inspection to validate the theoretical design against actual home conditions.

Confirm Design with Customer: Present the final schematic to the homeowner for approval.

Planning Phase: Procure necessary materials and coordinate logistics with installation teams.

Finalise Installation Date with Customer: Agree on a convenient start date for the installation process.

Installation Commences: Begin the physical installation of the heating system, radiators, solar panels, and loft insulation.

Installation Phase

During the installation, several key components were set up to enhance the home's energy efficiency:

Loft Insulation: Improved insulation was installed to reduce heat loss through the roof.

Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP):

  • Model: Samsung 8kw ASHP.
  • Radiators: Installed 10 new radiators with complete new pipework.
  • Heating Zones: Two separate heating zones created, each can be controlled independently by a wireless programmer.

Solar Panels (PV) System:

  • Solar Panels: Installed a 10-panel system with a total capacity of 4.05 kW.
  • Inverter: Fitted a 3.6 Solax inverter.
  • Energy Production: The system is estimated to produce 3,499 kWh annually.

The Results

The upgrades made to the home tackled the previous issues well.

By installing a new air source heat pump and additional radiators, the home now heats up more efficiently and uses less energy, which means lower bills for heating. Improved insulation in the loft keeps warmth in the house better.

Also, the new solar panel system is great because it can generate a good amount of electricity every year, reducing the need to buy as much from energy companies. These changes have made the home more comfortable and cheaper to run.

Customer Testimonial

A brilliant experience with this company would recommend 100%. A full install was supplied and fitted radiators, heat pump and solar panels.

Started with the surveyors who explained everything and sorted all the paperwork. Three weeks later the install started, little mess and quality fitters who would answer any questions.

Once the install was completed everything was checked off and all certificates were given to me by the director. Thank you so much.
